A Play-by-Play of a Day in Adelaide

Each of our days start around 7AM (or when the other Quillette decides to make too much noise and wake me up). We have breakfast in our hotel; usually a cold breakfast but they have a good menu too. I need to mention the hotel staff… They have been incredible! They’ve asked about Dad regularly, given us tips on where to go for different things in the city, and even brought us Australian chocolate to try. I wouldn’t have wanted to stay anywhere else. If you ever visit Adelaide, you need to stay at the Regal Park in North Adelaide!

Today we chose to take the bus into the city. We are staying in a part of the city called North Adelaide*. Which is just north of… Adelaide. But you knew that. We could walk to the hospital if we want, and we have before. It’s a nice walk that takes us right by the zoo and the botanical gardens but it does take a while so we’ve been taking the free bus that runs in a loop of the main city and North Adelaide.

Sometimes when we get to the hospital it is still a little early to visit so we head over to our favorite Aussie coffee shop, Foodtopia but today we went right in to see Dad. He was in such a silly mood today. Actually, most days he is. He never misses an opportunity to make fun of some poor soul whether it be one of us, his nurses, or his doctors. I think they’re ready for him to leave soon. I tried pressing him for a quote to share with all of you. It was exhausting! He’d say something funny and then immediately take it back (knowing that he is quite often quoted on social media sites). I did manage to get this much out of him;

During Holy Week I really appreciate all your prayers. I regret that they are not letting me close enough to wifi to talk to all of you but hopefully soon I’ll be able to in person!

Do you like that little attack on the hospital staff? Afterwards we had a devotion with Pastor Jeff Horn who is here to look after Dad and support us as well.

First family picture since the surgery! Yes, his hair is still pink from the iodine(?)

He still gets tired very quickly so we only visited for an hour or so. After that we went in search of food. We found some good choices in one of the food courts in the Rundle Mall. The food here is much like ours in the U.S. Lots of Asian restaurants, burger joints, pubs, and Italian places.

There is a free art museum that we have been meaning to check out so today we decided to do that. I wasn’t sure if photography was allowed so I just took a couple pictures anyway.

One of my favorites from the main collection. Didn't get the name though.

When we were done at the museum we ventured back to our hotel. We just learned that we will be moved into a short-term apartment which will be much more comfortable and give us some freedom to make our own meals since it has a full kitchen. We’re also going to be just a couple blocks from the hospital which will make visits with Dad a lot easier.

Thank you for reading. I’m amazed at all the followers and views we have already. And from so many different countries! (That shouldn’t really surprise me I guess). So far we’ve had views in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Germany, UK, Dominican Republic, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Sweden, and Taiwan. Crazy!

If you have any questions for any of us, please email them to me (kathryn.quill@gmail.com) and we’ll answer them. We want to have an open line of communication with everyone since you have all been so supportive.

    And now you have a view in England! 🙂 Thank you so much for sharing your journey, you are all in my prayers. It is wonderful to see Dr Quill and his cheeky grin in your photos!

    I read Psalm 139 last night, and Tim, you and your family were on my heart. What great joy to read Katie’s entry, see the pictures and give God thanks for directing all down under according to His perfect wisdom. God grant you rapid recovery until we all bask in the total recovery that Christ has assured us in Word and Deed. Blessed be God and your meditation on Christ’s work for us. Dan McMiller

    We are thankful to God for His blessings — Seeing the 3 of you really made our day. God bless you during this time of Easter.
